RSS feeds

So I decided to try utilizing some RSS feeds to help me in locating interesting job advertisements to use in a unit I am teaching in July - Develop Knowledge of the Library Industry. Students in this unit are required to apply for a library position and sit a mock interview as 2 parts of their 5 assessment pieces. I have located some interesting positions but would like more variety and I don't have the time to keep logging into the various jobs sites each week... thus I thought the RSS feeds would be good and I can learn some new skills in setting them up.
However I'm not sure if it has worked and don't know how I tell... guess I'll just wait a week and see if it has located anything new?
Maybe my students can help me???? CULLB602C comrades please help!

  1. Hi Loretta,

How have you set up your feeds? To go to email or into a reader? If it is a reader, do you have a public page for it? Or perhaps into the a page within the unit (or Library Central) at Moodle?

Kate Bunker cleverly used Netvibes to create a page containing RSS feeds from the bloggers who are posting every day of June. Perhaps a solution like that would be useful?

Did you catch the closure of alia's employLT team announced in aliaLIBTEC? Since then certain sites have been shared:

    http://www.seek.com.au/
    http://www.jobs.wa.gov.au/
    http://www.careerone.com.au/
    http://mycareer.com.au/
    http://www.apsjobs.gov.au/Index.aspx?ifm=true (Australian Public Service Jobs)
    http://jobsattafe.nga.net.au/customers/jobsattafe/bin/microsite/index.htm (Jobs at TAFE)
http://careers.vic.gov.au/ (Careers with the Victorian Government)
http://www.jobs.tas.gov.au/ (Jobs with the Tasmanian Government)

    and it was also noted:
"You can also search for jobs on local Council websites, or websites at places (eg Hospitals) where you're interested in working."

  3. Hi Loretta
I have subscribed to a feed on librarian postions in the education department, which, as I understand it, will send through any positions advertised in the last 24 hours if it works well I will let you know.
    Regards
    Gerradine
